 st project was SecureDrop\, a\n   whistleblower submission system that can
  be used by news outlets and\n   whistleblowers to communicate safely onli
 ne. At the time of Aaron’s\n   tragic death\, SecureDrop was just a prot
 otype\, but it’s now run by\n   Freedom of the Press Foundation and used
  by dozens of the biggest news\n   outlets around the world. This talk wil
 l explore the unique technical\n   challenges in running an anonymous whis
 tleblower platform\, the future\n   of whistleblowing technology\, and the
  lessons we have learned about\n   how whistleblowers and journalists actu
 ally communicate along the way.\n   In addition\, we will preview our new 
 project\, a collaboration with the\n   Tor Project called WEBCAT\, which a
 ims to solve code verification on\n   web browsers and make end-to-end enc

  Trevor Timm\, Freedom of the Press Foundation\n\n   Trevor is a co-founde
 r and the executive director of Freedom of the\n   Press Foundation (FPF)\
 , and has served on its board since 2012. He is\n   a journalist\, activis
 t\, and legal analyst whose writing has appeared\n   in The New York Times
 \, The Guardian\, USA Today\, The Atlantic\, Al\n   Jazeera\, Foreign Poli
 cy\, Harvard Law & Policy Review\, and Politico.\n   Trevor formerly worke
 d as an activist at the Electronic Frontier\n   Foundation. Before that\, 
 he helped the longtime general counsel of The\n   New York Times\, James G
 oodale\, write the book\, “Fighting for the\n   Press\,” on the Pentag
 on Papers and the First Amendment. He received\n   his J.D. from New York 
 Law School. In 2013\, he received the Hugh\n   Hefner First Amendment Awar

  Press\n   Foundation (FPF)\, where she oversees the organization’s engi

 g on\n   applied cryptography for privacy-preserving payments. She previou
 sly\n   led development for the SecureDrop whistleblower platform. She als
 o\n   co-founded Lucy Parsons Labs\, a Chicago-based civil liberties group
