 ome widespread in the\n   U.S. and elsewhere. We ask voters to “trust th
 e process” without\n   giving voters any direct evidence that their vote
 s have been correctly\n   counted. Technology has existed for over forty y
 ears that allows\n   voters and observers to independently verify the accu
 racy of election\n   results without having to trust any election software
 \, hardware\, or\n   personnel. This technology\, which has come to be kno
 wn as end-to-end\n   verifiability\, allows a verifiable election record t
 o be published.\n   Voters can use this record to confirm that their selec
 tions have been\n   accurately included\, and anyone can use this record t
 o confirm that\n   the included votes have been accurately tallied – all
  without\n   compromising voter privacy or enabling coercion or vote-selli
 ng.\n\n   This talk will explain how end-to-end verifiability works as wel
 l as\n   how and where it has been used in practice. It will also explore 
 some\n   recent advances which greatly simplify the processes of building 
 the\n   tools to enable verifiability\, administering elections using thes
 e\n   tools\, and verifying the integrity of election results.\n\n   End-t
 o-end verifiability offers a fundamental shift from trust-based\n   electi
 ons to evidence-based elections\, providing voters\, candidates\,\n   jour
 nalists\, and observers with independent means to confirm the\n   accuracy
  of reported election outcomes.\n\n   SpeakerBio:  Josh Benaloah\n\n   Jos
 h Benaloh is the Senior Principal Cryptographer at Microsoft\n   Research 
 and an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington's\n   Paul G. A
 llen School of Computer Science & Engineering. He is an\n   author of the 
 2018 National Academy of Sciences report "Securing\n   the� Vote: Protecti
 ng American Democracy" and has testified before\n   Congress on verifiable
 � election� technologies. His work has been\n   featured in publications i
 ncluding The New Yorker and WIRED. Dr.\n   Benaloh holds an S.B. degree fr
 om the Massachusetts Institute of\n   Technology and M.S.\, M. Phil.\, and
  Ph.D. degrees from Yale University.\n   He served seventeen years on the 
 Board of Directors of the\n   International Association for Cryptologic Re
 search and currently\n   serves on the Coordinating Committee of the� Elec
 tion� Verification\n   Network which he chaired from 2020-2024. Outside of
  professional\n   activities\, Dr. Benaloh served eight years on and chair
 ed the Citizen\n   Oversight Panel for Sound Transit which is investing $2
  billion\n   annually on expanding the public transit infrastructure for t
 he\n   Seattle region. He has also authored numerous puzzles for competiti
