DESCRIPTION: 'Title: Bring Your Own Root Of Trust\n Tags: DEF CON Offic
 ial Talk | Demo 💻 | Tool 🛠 | Exploit 🪲\n When: Saturday\, Aug 8
 \, 13:30 - 14:30 PDT\n Where: LVCCW Level 1 Hall 3 1007 (Main Track 2) a
 nd DCTV-2 - [1]Map\n\n Description:\n Modern computers depend on a har
dware root of trust: a component\n assumed to start trustworthy and is u
sed to verify everything that\n follows. This has evolved from ROM boot
code and fixed keys into TPMs\,\n secure boot chains\, external security
controllers\, and attestation\n mechanisms used far beyond disk encrypt
ion. Today\, platforms trust\n these devices because they are certified\
, immutable\, and built into\n the hardware\, but what if that assumptio
 n is wrong? Starting from real\n hardware traces\, failed approaches\, a
nd a pile of development boards\,\n we arrive at a $45 FPGA-based SPI TP
M that can appear to Windows 11 as\n a platform trust anchor. From there
\, we explore what this means for\n secure boot\, measured boot\, platfo
 rm attestation\, anticheat\, AI\n infrastructure\, and the broader belie
f that hardware identity is\n difficult to counterfeit. We will release
the code\, gateware\, prompts\,\n and data so others can reproduce the w
 ork and push it further.\n\n https://twpm.dasharo.com/ https://github.co

\n specializing in breaking down complex concepts and identifying\n se

ability\n detection and mitigation who has worked at all layers of moder
n\n computing environments from exploiting worldwide corporate network\n
infrastructure down to hunting vulnerabilities inside processors at\n
the hardware design level. His primary areas of expertise include\n rev
