What happens when you wander into a surplus store and walk out with a\n
bomb disposal robot? You name him “Boomba” and tear him apart.\n B
uilt by Roomba creator iRobot\, the PackBot is often used by agencies\n
who need to deploy a small\, ruggedized robot in potentially dangerous\n
locations. But beneath its rugged shell lies a fascinating time\n capsu
le of early 2000s engineering. As the platform's physical\n capabilities
evolved to meet extreme operational demands\, its core\n software trail
ed behind\, relying on legacy hardware and an\n architecture built befor
e modern security controls. This talk is a\n full-stack teardown of a si
 x-figure tactical asset. We'll explore its\n 25-year evolution: mapping
undocumented interfaces\, fabricating custom\n cables\, and replacing le
gacy 4.9 GHz restricted-band radios with\n custom hardware. We will dive
into the software to expose unencrypted\n VPN connections and entirely
plaintext Python 2.5 control protocols.\n We will also demonstrate vulne
rabilities that grant full root access.\n Finally\, we’ll decompile it
s modern tablet control app\, breaking\n down the JAUS protocol to revea
 l a critical command injection\n vulnerability. With a live PackBot on s
 tage\, we’ll intercept\n telemetry\, pop the LFI\, and eavesdrop on ne
twork traffic. Watch Boomba\n get turned back into a vacuum\, and catch
him later at the Car Hacking\n\n Speakers:Patrick "gigstorm" Kiley\,Emil
