DESCRIPTION: 'Title: Four Newbies Vs. An Insulin Pump. How Hard Can It Be
?\n Tags: Biohacking Village | Creator Talk/Panel\n When: Friday\, Aug
  7\, 10:00 - 10:45 PDT\n Where: LVCCW Level 1 Hall 3 1104 (Creator Stage
  4) - [1]Map\n\n Description:\n\n Medical devices are becoming increas
ingly connected—and that\n includes devices responsible for keeping pe
ople alive. In this talk\,\n we share our journey as four security stude
nts taking on the challenge\n of analyzing an insulin pump as relative n
ewcomers to hacking medical\n devices. Motivated by curiosity\, concern
for patient safety\, and\n personal stakes\, we set out to explore how a
n attacker might approach\n such a system using only public information\
, basic wireless knowledge\,\n and persistence.\n\n Rather than presen
ting ourselves as experts\, we focus on the learning\n process: how we a
pproached an unfamiliar\, safety critical system\, how\n we performed th
reat modeling when the “failure mode” is a human\n body\, and how we
handled the many moments where everything stopped\n making sense. We’
ll walk through what worked\, what didn’t\, and how\n critical thinkin
g helped us move forward when we hit a wall.\n\n By reflecting on where
 we started\, where we are today\, and what\n remains unexplored\, this t
alk highlights the value of a beginner’s\n mindset when analyzing real
world systems like medical devices. Our\n goal is not to sensationalize
risk\, but to show how accessible\n security research\, done responsibl
y\, can contribute to better\n understanding and safer technology.\n\n
