  in the US and around the world\,\n   they are becoming a source of tensio
 n politically\, environmentally\,\n   and economically\, and are becoming 
 high-value critical infrastructure.\n   The threats to these data centers 
 will rise soon as activists\,\n   cybercriminals\, and nation-states targe
 t them. Unlike what has been\n   seen recently with kinetic attacks on dat
 a centers in conflict zones\,\n   cyberattacks have a larger range and can
  affect a wider population.\n\n   We wanted to explore unconventional thre
 ats against data centers.\n   Using open-source intelligence and our paten
 ted (US12267344B1)\n   geostalking techniques\, we were able to map out da
 ta centers in the\n   United States and overlay that with the exposed infr
 astructure that\n   would directly be used in the operation of the data ce
 nter itself.\n   This includes building automation and energy supply as ex
 amples.\n\n   Afterwards\, we were left with the locations of 1\,063 data 
 centers that\n   had 6\,300 high-confidence industrial control systems exp
 osed to the\n   internet. This information went through a five-layer filte
 ring process\n   to result in these high-confidence exposed systems\, base
 d on the\n   banner responses received from these devices. Of these 6\,300
  devices\,\n   964 devices (15.3%) have a CVSS score of 9.0 or above\, and
  88.7% of\n   the entire dataset is inherently vulnerable due to the use o
 f\n   protocols that were never designed to be exposed to the internet.\n\
 n   Armed with this information\, an attacker could circumvent even the\n 
   best IT security with exposed systems that might directly or\n   indirec
 tly affect data center operations. In today’s geopolitical\n   climate\,
  exposed systems in near proximity to data centers are at\n   higher risk 
 of cyberattacks. Due to diverse applications across\n   personal\, corpora
 te\, or even government use\, the repercussions of a\n   data center outag
 e will have effects far wider than just the data\n   center itself.\n\n
