DESCRIPTION: 'Title: The Breach Is Over. The Exposure Is Not\n Tags: Re
 con Village | Creator Talk/Panel\n When: Saturday\, Aug 8\, 15:00 - 15:3
 0 PDT\n Where: LVCCW Level 1 Hall 3 801 (Creator Stage 2) - [1]Map\n\n
Description:\n\n Breaches are usually treated as discrete incidents. A
leak is\n discovered\, the most recognisable credentials are rotated\,\n
incident-response activity slows down\, and attention moves to the next
\n compromise. The exposure rarely ends with the incident. Credentials\n
can remain valid for months\, sometimes long enough to be reused in\n
later attacks. While common credential types receive immediate\n attent
ion\, large breach datasets often contain hundreds of less\n familiar se
cret classes that are harder to recognise\, validate\, or\n prioritise.
This talk examines the long tail of a major software\n supply chain brea
ch and measures how exposed credentials age\, which\n categories survive
longest\, and whether public disclosure actually\n results in remediati
on.\n\n The leaked values are only part of the exposure. Secret names\,\
 n environment variables\, repository paths\, service identifiers\,\n d
eployment stages\, and naming conventions can reveal how an\n organisati
on builds and operates its systems. Even when a credential\n has expired
\, this contextual residue can support attack-surface\n discovery\, tech
 nology identification\, infrastructure correlation\, and\n future target
ing. By looking beyond the obvious credential classes and\n focusing on
the outliers\, this talk demonstrates how breach data can\n be transform
ed into durable reconnaissance intelligence\, and why\n recovery should
be measured by the disappearance of usable exposure\n rather than the cl
osure of the original incident.\n\n Speakers:Kumar Ashwin\,Anant Shrivas
