  passage” by getting your license at DEF CON\, presented by\n   the Ham 
 Radio Village.\n\n   While anyone is able to listen in to amateur/ham radi
 o transmissions\,\n   only those who have an amateur radio license are abl
 e to fully partake\n   in the “oldest hacker hobby”. With your license
 \, you’ll be\n   authorized by the FCC to transmit up to 1\,500W on desi
 gnated\n   frequencies\, build/modify radios & antennas\, and even adminis
 ter your\n   own exams! Additionally\, having your ham radio license can i
 mprove\n   your resume as it is a well-recognized proof of technical and\n
    regulatory knowledge when it comes to all things radio.\n\n\n   About T
 he Exam\n   --------------\n\n   In the US there are 3 current levels of a
 mateur radio license -\n   Technician\, General\, and Amateur Extra. You c
 an progress through the\n   levels by taking a series of multiple-choice e
 xams showing increasing\n   breadth of knowledge. Most folks at DEF CON lo
 oking to become a ham\n   take just the technician exam.\n\n   The technic
 ian exam is a 35 question\, multiple choice exam. Questions\n   come from 
 from a public question pool of 400 questions. Because of\n   that\, the mo
 st popular way folks at DEF CON prepare is by reading\n   through all 400 
 questions before the exam\, and learning hands on once\n   you get license
 d. Many study resources exist - most people recommend\n   ham.study.\n\n\n
    Signing Up\n   ----------\n\n   Who may register for this testing sessi
 on:\n\n     * Anyone with an interest in obtaining a new Amateur Radio lic
 ense\n       or upgrading their existing licenses.\n\n     * You may take 
 multiple elements in a single appointment\; we just\n       ask that you h
 ave studied and are ready to pass.\n\n\n   Fees\n   ----\n\n     * All lic
 ense examinations administered by the Laurel VEC are free\n       to all\n
 \n     * After passing\, Laurel VEC will submit your application to the FC
 C.\n       On acceptance you will receive an email from the FCC directly w
 ith\n       instructions to pay the $35 application fee.\n\n\n   Questions
