3-04 - [1]Map\n\n Description:\n\n This short talk explores the intell
igence potential available in the\n Telegram messaging app\, with partic
ular focus on our novel work\n exploring its new “similar channels”
feature. Telegram is a\n popular application with numerous\, but labyrin
thine\, security settings\n and many ways to spill data. In November 202
3\, Telegram also launched\n a new “similar channels” recommender fe
 ature\, explaining that upon\n joining a channel\, users will be shown s
imilar channels that were\n "selected automatically based on similaritie
s in their subscriber\n bases.” We built a new tool\, which we will re
lease at DEFCON\, to\n collect and analyze this similar channels data. W
e will then show how\n to use social network analysis techniques to unco
ver previously-hidden\n relationships between channels on the platform.
In the course of\n collecting this OSINT for our own research projects\,
we uncovered\n evidence of numerous inauthentic channel networks that a
re being used\n to influence political discourse.\n\n SpeakerBio: Meg
