DESCRIPTION: 'Title: Exploring the Cosmos: Hackable Innovations at the Al
 len\n Telescope Array\n When: Saturday\, Aug 10\, 13:00 - 13:59 PDT\n
   Where: LVCC West/Floor 1/Hall 3/HW3-05-03 - [1]Map\n\n Description:\n\
n The Allen Telescope Array is a radio interferometer array located in\n
Northern California. Each of the 42 antennas is 6 meters in diameter\n
and is distributed randomly over an area of 350 meters. Each dish is\n
sensitive to an ultra-wideband frequency range from 200 MHz to 12 GHz.\n
While in operation\, each dish can produce 1.5 GHz of bandwidth for\n
each polarization adding up to 1.3 Tbps of data to be processed in\n rea
l-time.\n\n Although it's scale\, the Allen Telescope Array acts like a
gigantic\n Software Defined Radio. The system design gives us the abilit
y to try\n new concepts not ever tried with great flexibility. This talk
will go\n deep into how the telescope operates from the antenna's cryog
enically\n cooled feeds to the state-of-the-art GPU-accelerated digital
signal\n processing pipeline deployed at our on-site data center. All of
this\n while giving special focus to little details that make it specia
 l and\n hackable.\n\n SpeakerBio: Luigi Cruz\n\n Luigi Cruz is a co
mputer engineer working as a staff engineer at the\n SETI Institute. He
created the CUDA-accelerated digital signal\n processing backend called
BLADE currently in use at the Allen\n Telescope Array (ATA) and Very Lar
ge Array (VLA) for beam forming and\n high-spectral resolution observati
ons. Luigi is also the maintainer of\n multiple open-source projects lik
 e the PiSDR\, an SDR-specialized\n Raspberry Pi image\, CyberEther\, a h
eterogenous accelerated signal\n visualization library\, and Radio Core\
, a Python library for\n demodulating SDR signals using the GPU with the
  help of CuPy.\n\n '\n\n 1. #LVCCW_Level1_Hall3\n\n\n
