DESCRIPTION: 'Title: Trapped Ion Quantum Computing Systems - Behind The S
cenes:\n from the physics to control electronics\n When: Friday\, Aug
 9\, 15:00 - 15:59 PDT\n Where: LVCC West/Floor 1/Hall 3/HW3-06-01 - [1]M
 ap\n\n Description:\n\n In this two-part presentation\, we will explor
e the workings of\n trapped-ion quantum computers. The first part provid
es an introduction\n to the fundamental concepts of quantum computation\
, as well as the\n scientific principles behind implementing these conce
pts with lasers\n and trapped ions. The second part delves into the prac
tical aspects of\n trapped-ion quantum computing by following a quantum
circuit through\n the process of compilation and execution by control el
 ectronics.\n\n Speakers:Daiwei Zhu\,Rick Altherr\n\n SpeakerBio: Daiw
ei Zhu\n\n Daiwei Zhu is a quantum application researcher at IonQ\, havi
ng joined\n the team following the completion of his PhD in experimental
ion trap\n quantum computing. His current research focuses on quantum a
lgorithms\,\n quantum machine learning\, reinforcement learning\, and op
 timizing\n quantum circuit compilation.\n\n SpeakerBio: Rick Altherr\
n\n Rick Altherr is a full stack engineer having worked on everything fr
om\n ASIC design to user experience (UX) in systems ranging from embedde
d\n to hyperscale. Their career has kept them close to the hardware\n
software boundary\, primarily working on computer systems at Apple\,\n G
oogle\, and Oxide Computer. After a multi-year detour through firmware\n
security\, Rick is now designing instruction sets\, microarchitecture\,\n
and real-time embedded control systems for trapped-ion quantum\n comp
 uters at IonQ.\n\n '\n\n 1. #LVCCW_Level1_Hall3\n\n\n
