 ows a predictable trajectory:\n   first\, platforms are good to their user
 s\; then they abuse their users\n   to make things better for their busine
 ss customers\; finally\, they\n   abuse those business customers to claw b
 ack all the value for\n   themselves. Then\, they die.\n\n   It doesn't ha
 ve to be this way. Enshittification occurs when companies\n   gobble each 
 other up in an orgy of mergers and acquisitions\, reducing\n   the interne
 t to "five giant websites filled with screenshots of text\n   from the oth
 er four" (credit to Tom Eastman!)\, which lets them\n   endlessly tweak th
 eir back-ends to continue to shift value from users\n   and business-custo
 mers to themselves. The government gets in on the\n   act by banning tweak
 ing by users - reverse-engineering\, scraping\, bots\n   and other user-si
 de self-help measures - leaving users helpless before\n   the march of ens
 hittification.\n\n   We don't have to accept this! Disenshittifying the in
 ternet will\n   require antitrust\, limits on corporate tweaking - through
  privacy laws\n   and other protections - and aggressive self-help measure
 s from\n   alternative app stores to ad blockers and beyond!\n\n   '\n\n
