DESCRIPTION: 'Title: AI Village Keynote: The last attempted AI revolution
  in\n security\, and the next one\n When: Friday\, Aug 11\, 10:15 - 10
 :59 PDT\n Where: Caesars Forum - Academy - 401-406 - AI Village - [1]Map
 \n\n SpeakerBio:Joshua Saxe\n No BIO available\n\n Description:\n
 This isn’t our first “ChatGPT moment” – a decade ago\, when\n Al
exNet realized a step function jump in image classification\n accuracy\,
there was a similar wave of hype. Breathless claims were\n made about d
eep learning replacing signatures\, revolutionizing\n zero-day attack de
tection\, threat intelligence\, and predicting the\n future. A decade la
ter we can say that it didn’t. ML found a few\n applications as a valu
 e-add (e.g. as a complement to signatures in\n malware detection)\, but
never became load bearing. Instead\, our field\n continued to improve it
 s basic technologies – signatures\, databases\,\n event processing pip
elines\, and\, most importantly\, manual human\n processes. In this talk
\, I’ll argue that while the past decade gives\n reasons to doubt it\,
this AI moment really is different. I’ll\n delineate the ways in whic
h today’s scaled machine learning models\n address some (but not all)
of the core blockers ML faced in the last\n decade\, and take positions
on how scaled ML will shape defensive\n practice and the threat landscap
 e over the next few years.\n '\n\n 1. #CaesarsAcademyBR\n\n\n
