ption:\n The internet is still largely centralized\, and not every count
ry has\n strong institutional controls preserving the right to access\n
information or speak freely. Heck\, even many "liberal democracies" are\
n backsliding. While this may sound like an infosec talk suited for the\
n think tank crowd\, these developments are impacting hackers and the\n
results they present at hacker cons.\n\n Internet freedom tools are ab
out empowering users to have the safety\n to make their own priorities.
While China\, Iran\, and Russia are\n obviously key concerns in this spa
ce\, many other countries are seeking\n to enact new laws and regulation
s that impact all types of users --\n some with nefarious intent and oth
ers just accidentally harmful.\n\n This conversation will explore the re
asons\, the symptoms\, and some\n ideas about how to preserve our abilit
y to set our own priorities. We\n will offer a holistic and detailed pic
ture of how censorship affects\n our work and that of our colleagues --
how even if you feel secure in\n the freedom you have where you are righ
t now\, government censorship\n and surveillance in other places will un
questionably affect us all.\n\n REFERENCES\n\n Some starting points:\n
