DESCRIPTION: 'Title: Shufflecake\, AKA Truecrypt on Steroids for Linux\n
   When: Friday\, Aug 11\, 12:00 - 13:55 PDT\n Where: Caesars Forum - Uni
 ty Boardroom - Demo Labs - [1]Map\n Speakers:Elia Anzuoni\,Tommaso "tomg
 ag" Gagliardoni\n\n SpeakerBio:Elia Anzuoni\n Elia: is a junior comput
er scientist and cryptographer. He recently\n obtained a joint M.Sc. in
Cybersecurity from the Swiss universities\n EPFL and ETHZ. Among his rel
evant works\, he conducted a 6-month\n project to refine and implement a
decentralised MPC scheme based on\n the quantum-resistant BFV cryptosys
 tem\; as part of his first\n internship\, he implemented a FIDO2 authent
icator in a USB mouse's\n firmware\; for his Master's Thesis (conducted
as an internship at the\n cybersecurity company Kudelski Security)\, he
devised a novel scheme\n for plausibly-deniable storage and implemented
it as a kernel module\n for Linux. Since his graduation\, he has develop
ed an interest for\n blockchain technologies\, especially in the Ethereu
m ecosystem\, which\n has led him to delve into the vast landscape of pe
culiar pitfalls\n surrounding DeFi and Smart Contract development. He is
now on a leap\n year\, wandering around the globe with a big backpack f
ull of dreams\n and t-shirts.\n\n SpeakerBio:Tommaso "tomgag" Gagliard
oni\n Tommaso "tomgag" Gagliardoni: researcher in cryptography\, privacy
and\n security. Mathematician\, cryptographer\, and quantum security ex
pert\,\n Tommaso published influential peer-reviewed papers and spoke at
many\n international conferences in cryptography\, privacy and security
  (among\n others: CRYPTO\, EUROCRYPT\, ASIACRYPT\, Black Hat Europe). As
a subject\n expert\, he serves as a Program Committee member at academi
c\n conferences\, and collaborates with public and private institutions
and\n official agencies in the context of legislation\, international\n
treaties and agreements on emerging technologies. Expert in blockchain\n
and DeFi\, Tommaso has performed cryptographic code audits for clients\
 n such as Binance\, Coinbase\, ING\, Swiss Post. Additionally\, he has a
 \n background in privacy hacktivism\, investigative journalism\, and\n
ethical hacking\, speaking at venues such as the International\n Journa
lism Festival and the E-Privacy Meeting\, and being a strong\n advocate
of the FOSS philosophy and digital freedoms. Tommaso obtained\n an M.Sc.
in Mathematics at the University of Perugia\, Italy\, and a PhD\n at th
e Technical University of Darmstadt\, Germany. He worked at IBM\n Resear
ch Zurich before joining Swiss-American cybersecurity company\n Kudelski
Security in 2019\, where he is currently technical leader for\n the ini
tiatives in advanced cryptography services and quantum\n security. In hi
s free time\, Tommaso pursues his hobby of building\n tools and practice
s to escape the global surveillance dragnet.\n\n Description:\n Shuffl
ecake is a FOSS tool for Linux that allows creation of multiple\n hidden
volumes on a storage device in such a way that it is very\n difficult\,
even under forensic inspection\, to prove the existence of\n such volum
es without the right password(s). You can consider\n Shufflecake a "spir
itual successor" of tools such as Truecrypt and\n Veracrypt\, but vastly
improved: it works natively on Linux\, it\n supports any filesystem of
choice\, and can manage multiple nested\n volumes per device\, so to mak
e deniability of the existence of these\n partitions really plausible.\n
