DESCRIPTION: 'Title: Quantum attacks on next-gen cryptosystems: lattices\
 ,\n annealers\, notebooks\n When: Saturday\, Aug 12\, 11:00 - 12:30 PD
 T\n Where: LINQ - 3rd flr - Quantum Village - [1]Map\n\n Description:\
n In this workshop we will develop quantum algorithms to solve a\n com
puter science problem called the shortest lattice problem (SVP).\n SVP i
 s geometrically simple - given a description of a mathematical\n lattice
(a repeating pattern of points in N-dimensional space)\, can\n you find
the shortest distance between any two points - i.e. the\n shortest vect
or? This problem is NP hard and we believe it is\n resistant to quantum
computers.\n\n Based upon the results of “Two quantum Ising algorithms
for the\n shortest-vector problem”\, we will explain the principle of
quantum\n adiabatic computation\, of Hamiltonian minimization\, and of
how to map\n mathematical problems into a Hamiltonian ready to be plugge
d into a\n quantum computation framework.\n\n During the course of the
workshop\, participants will fill in functions\n in a Jupyter notebook
to construct lattices\, convert them into a\n Hamiltonian\, and describe
quantum annealing dynamics. They will then\n (hopefully) be able to sub
mit these queries to a D-Wave QPU to which\n will sample short vectors f
or them\, and we will visualize as a group\n the results returned.\n\n
This exercise will get participants directly interacting with a QPU\,\n
understanding some of the benefits and limitations of annealing-based\n
quantum computation\, and will learn about an exciting computer science\n
problem and how it directly feeds into our security architecture\,\n
