 o:Matthew Canham\n   Dr. Matthew Canham is the CEO of Beyond Layer Seven\,
  a company\n   dedicated to understanding and addressing the human element
  in\n   cybersecurity. In addition to his primary role\, Dr. Canham is als
 o an\n   affiliated faculty member at George Mason University where his\n 
   research focuses on human susceptibility to mis-dis-mal (MDM)\n   inform
 ation operations and remote online social engineering attacks.\n   He hold
 s a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of\n   California at
  Santa Barbara\, and he is a certified digital forensics\n   examiner an
 d mobile device security analyst.\n\n   Description:\n   Misinformation\, 
 disinformation\, and malinformation (MDM) operations\n   depend upon and l
 everage existing human cognitive biases. Our research\n   group has catalo
 ged a diverse collection of cognitive biases which are\n   vulnerable to e
 xploitation by malicious actors. This presentation\n   describes the const
 ruction and development of this database as well as\n   suggesting use cas
 e applications and real-world examples which will\n   eventually serve to 
 build the foundation for a comprehensive cognitive\n   security defense fr
 amework. This Human Vulnerability\, Exploitation\,\n   Tools & Tactics (HV
 ETT) database will be a significant resource for\n   the prevention\, anal
 ysis\, and attribution of threat actors across\n   tactical\, operational\
 , and strategic threats.\n\n   We begin by introducing the concept and sco
 pe of cognitive security\,\n   discuss framework development\, and provide
  an overview of how and why\n   humans are vulnerable to MDM operations. N
 ext\, we will discuss how\n   technologically mediated communications (TMC
 s) and synthetic media\n   (such as deep fakes) exacerbate these vulnerabi
 lities by adding new\n   attack vectors. After establishing this foundatio
 n\, we introduce the\n   HVETT database and discuss potential applications
  to real-world\n   challenges. Finally\, we conclude with a series of rece
 nt examples of\n   exploits and tactics which threaten the cognitive secur
