sts “Nothing About You Says Computer\n Technology\,” a weekly podcas
t on cybersecurity and data privacy\n viewed through the lens of diverse
voices. \n\n Description:\n States have been taking the lead to addr
ess privacy. Last year\,\n multiple states introduced or strengthened th
eir privacy laws\, and in\n 2022 several states are primed to do the sam
 e. But these new laws\n raise concerns for both the public and companies
. Some of these new\n privacy laws don’t match public perception and w
orries related to\n privacy. In addition\, these new laws are being craf
ted by state\n legislators that few people voted for. Voter turnout in l
ocal\n elections is historically low\, and the people who vote in these\
n elections don’t reflect the demographics of their districts. Even\n
still\, these new laws can be great for consumers. But it often leaves\n
    companies\, especially small and medium-sized ones\, struggling to\n
address this new normal and leaving communities with regulations that\n
they aren’t prepared for. Companies working nationally or even\n regio
nally must navigate multiple state privacy demands. This\n presentation
will provide an update on these new laws and how they\n compare to publi
c perception of privacy. Next\, we will examine their\n impact on privac
 y and security\, outline some common characteristics of\n these laws\, a
nd provide tips for companies to be privacy compliant.\n Finally\, we ta
lk about ways the public can shape these new laws.\n '\n\n 1. https://
