 am Lead\, Intel\n No BIO available\n\n Description:\n The SMM is a w
ell-guarded fortress that holds a treasure – an\n unlimited god mode.
We hopped over the walls\, fooled the guards\, and\n entered the holy gr
ail of privileges. An attacker running in System\n Management Mode (SMM)
can bypass practically any security mechanism\,\n steal sensitive infor
mation\, install a bootkit\, or even brick the\n entire platform. We dis
covered a family of industry wide TOCTOU\n vulnerabilities in various UE
FI implementations affecting more than 8\n major vendors making billions
of devices vulnerable to our attack.\n RingHopper leverages peripheral
devices that exist on every platform\n to perform a confused deputy atta
ck. With RingHopper we hop from ring\n 3 (user-space) into ring -2 (SMM)
\, bypass all mitigations\, and gain\n arbitrary code execution. In our
talk\, we will deep-dive into this\n class of vulnerabilities\, exploita
tion method and how it can be\n prevented. Finally\, we will demonstrate
  a PoC of a full exploitation\n using RingHopper\, hopping from user-spa
 ce into SMM.\n '\n\n 1. https://defcon.outel.org/consolidated_page.htm
