Drew Springall\n I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comput
er Science and\n Software Engineering at Auburn University. As a securit
 y researcher\, I\n focus on nation-state/highly privileged attackers\, I
 nternet-scale\n measurement/vulnerabilities\, and election security. I r
ecently left\n Google's Production Security team where I was working to
mitigate\n insider threats\, secure core infrastructure\, and improve th
e overall\n security and privacy properties of Google's products and ser
vices. My\n Ph.D. research focused on studying nation-state attackers su
ch as the\n NSA\, GCHQ\, and other intelligence agencies to understand t
heir\n approach to security issues and identify weaknesses that are\n
form-fitted to their special abilities and characteristics. Throughout\n
my graduate education at the University of Michigan\, I was advised by\n
Prof. J. Alex Halderman and funded by an NSF Graduate Research\n Fello
 wship\, the Post-9/11 GI Bill\, Google ATAP\, and others. My work\n has
helped explain intelligence agencies' ability to defeat widely\n used cr
yptography\, identify and analyze the danger posed by common\n cryptogra
phic shortcuts used in the TLS protocol\, and demonstrated the\n real-wo
rld potential of election interference by foreign actors\n through techn
ical means. This research has been covered and cited by\n The Wall Stre
et Journal\, The Washington Post\, Ars Technica\,\n The Guardian\, US
 -CERT\, NIST\, FBI Cyber Division\, and Playboy (SFW).\n Twitter: [2]@_a

he Information Security Officer for the Maricopa\n County Recorder’s o
ffice. Maricopa County is the fourth most\n populous county and the seco
nd largest voting district in the United\n States. He has worked at Mari
copa County for 14 years\, focusing on\n Information Security for the pa
st 8. After volunteering to be a poll\n worker\, he developed a passion
for Election Security. When the\n Information Security Officer position
was created at the Recorder’s\n Office he was able to utilize years of
experience performing security\n assessments to rapidly increase the se
curity maturity of the\n organization. Michael believes it is only throu
gh effective federal\,\n state\, and local government partnerships\, as
well as assistance from\n trusted vendors that we can protect our democr
acy and fulfill our duty\n to the American voter. The greatest threats t
o elections are MDM and\n the resulting insider threat caused by radical
ized citizens. The best\n protection against these threats is combatting
lies with the truth\,\n developing secure and resilient systems that pr
event attacks whenever\n possible\, allow for detections of compromise a
nd facilitate accurate\n and rapid recovery. Michael has pushed forward
these initiatives in\n his own organization as well as across the Electi
