ssured Information\n Security\n Chris Poore is a Senior Reverse Engine
er at Assured Information\n Security in Rome\, NY. He has expertise disc
overing vulnerabilities in\n wireless systems\, gaining access to system
s via RF\, reverse\n engineering RF protocols\, forensically testing cyb
ersecurity systems\,\n and administering RF collection events. He has ex
perience writing code\n for software-defined radios and GNU Radio to rev
erse-engineer RF\n communication protocols and perform sophisticated att
acks. Chris is\n excitable when working with the community to draw out i
deas and takes\n advantage of networking opportunities with both humans
and computers.\n\n SpeakerBio:Ben Gardiner \, Senior Cybersecurity Resea
rch Engineer\,\n National Motor Freight Traffic Association Inc.\,\n B
en Gardiner is a Senior Cybersecurity Research Engineer contractor at\n
the National Motor Freight Traffic Association\, Inc. (NMFTA)\n speciali
zing in hardware and low-level software security. Prior to\n joining the
NMFTA team in 2019\, Gardiner held security assurance and\n reversing r
oles at a global corporation\, as well as worked in embedded\n software
and systems engineering roles at several organizations. He is\n a DEF CO
N Hardware Hacking Village and Car Hacking Village volunteer.\n He also
participates in and contributes to working groups in SAE and\n ATA TMC.\
n\n Description:\n Ben Gardiner\, Chris Poore and other security resea
rchers have been\n analyzing signals and performing research against tra
ilers and Power\n Line Communication for multiple years. This year the t
eam was able to\n disclose two vulnerabilities focused on the ability to
remotely inject\n RF messages onto the powerline and in turn send un-au
thenticated\n messages to the brake controller over the link. The team w
ill discuss\n the details of PLC4TRUCKS\, identify what led to this rese
arch and the\n discovery of the vulnerabilities\, and then highlight the
details of\n the SDR and software used to perform the attack. The talk
will\n conclude with the demonstration of a remotely induced brake contr
oller\n solenoid test using an FL2K and the release of the GNU radio blo
ck\n used to perform the test to the community to promote further resear
 ch\n in the area.\n '\n\n 1. https://defcon.outel.org/consolidated_p
