ksmashing \, Hacker\n stacksmashing is a security researcher with a focu
 s on embedded\n devices: From hacking payment terminals\, crypto-wallets
\, secure\n processors or Apple AirTags\, he loves to explore embedded &
IoT\n security. On his YouTube channel he attempts to make\n reverse-
engineering & hardware hacking more accessible. He is known\n for trying
to hack everything for under $5\, which is probably related\n to him li
ving in the stingiest part of Germany.\n Twitter: [2]@ghidraninja\n\n
Description:\n Apple’s Lightning connector was introduced almost 10 ye
ars ago - and\n under the hood it can be used for much more than just ch
arging an\n iPhone: Using a proprietary protocol it can also be configur
ed to give\n access to a serial-console and even expose the JTAG pins of
the\n application processor! So far these hidden debugging features hav
e not\n been very accessible\, and could only be accessed using expensiv
e and\n difficult to acquire "Kanzi" and "Bonobo" cables. In this talk w
 e\n introduce the cheap and open-source "Tamarin Cable"\, bringing\n L
ightning exploration to the masses!\n\n In this talk we are diving deep
into the weeds of Apple Lightning:\n What’s “Tristar”\, “Hydra
and “HiFive”? What’s SDQ and\n IDBUS? And how does it all fit to
gether?\n\n We show how you can analyze Lightning communications\, what
different\n types of cables (such as DCSD\, Kanzi & co) communicate with
the\n iPhone\, and how everything works on the hardware level.\n\n We
then show how we developed the “Tamarin Cable”: An open-source\,\n
super cheap (~$5 and a sacrificed cable) Lightning explorer that\n suppo
rts sending custom IDBUS & SDQ commands\, can access the\n iPhone’s se
 rial-console\, and even provides a full JTAG/SWD probe\n able to debug i
Phones.\n\n We also show how we fuzzed Lightning to uncover new commands
\, and\n reverse engineer some Lightning details hidden in iOS itself.\n
